I've never know such joy from having a kid, but it also brings the greatest heartache. Especially when they are down.

Diabetes is tough, but as he gets older he'll understand it is a way of life. He will also remember the Daddy who is doing everything he can to find a cure. Hang tough, both of you.

Diabetes is such a hard disease for anyone to handle let alone a six-year-old. It makes them have to be more grown up and responsible then their peers which is I think why they have more grown-up distress as well. It does not necessarily get better but it does change. I too know that there will be a cure my only wish is that it is sooner rather than later. Keep up the great parenting!

I have the reverse of your situation. I have the insulin pump and a 6 year old at home wondering when he has to get his box (insulin pump).

It just gives me a good point to talk to him about how people are different and how we can learn more about other people by talking about it.

That being said he keeps telling his school friends that his daddy is hooked directly into his wii mote.

Poor little guy. There is no "normal".... it's just an illusion society tells us exists so we'll (try to) hide our abnormalities. good luck with the counselor... good move.

If a Genie offered me wishes, I'd choose at least ten before I'd ask to be cured of diabetes. Your response as a parent is pitch-perfect, but in time your child will replace this hurdle with another, and that will give you both happiness and exhaustion. I don't think we ever stop wishing for our kids to be happy. :)

There will be a cure, no doubt. Keep the faith and I'll keep you and your's in my thoughts. I can't imagine your struggles, but know that I am out here caring - if nothing else...
