My Second Quilt
I forgot to post the second quilt that I’ve made. I actually finished this one before my first one as I had to get it ready for Christmas. My mom was the receiver of this one.

Ta daaaaaa! I finally got my husband to take a picture of my very first quilt. I took a class to learn how to quilt and it was so worth it! The other ladies in the class were very friendly and we had fun. I gave this quilt to my daughter as she loved the colours.

for my daughter’s dance class. Her dancing school is a non-profit school which expects parents to volunteer in some way or they can pay $100 in lieu. In the school’s latest newsletter, they were looking for moms who sew. How many moms these days sew? Not many. I asked my daughter’s teacher if she wanted help and she excitedly said yes. So far there was only one mother who had volunteered (another class mind you). Driving home I thought, “am I getting in over my head?”. But then I thought “how hard can it be to fit little girls?” They have no breasts and no curves. Can’t be too hard …. I hope.
My back has been very sore lately and today my chiropractor corrected my spine. He is such a character. He told me not to worry my pretty little head and that he’d fix my back. I’ve been his patient for about 6 years and I totally trust him. I feel so bad for people that are afraid to go to a chiropractor and continue to suffer in pain. For the most part, I feel that the back should be treated by a chiropractor. Medical doctors usually only prescribe pain killers and send you home. Treat the symptoms not the source of the pain. Does not make sense to me. Of course, most medical doctors think Chiropractors are kooks. Too bad. They don’t know what they are missing.
I have contemplating whether to join the knitting world or the crocheting world. I have done both but I have not knitted since I was a kid and would have to learn how. I have put two books on hold at the libary both by Debbie Stroller. Stitch n’ Bitch and Happy Hooker. Funny titles. It would be nice to make chemo hats and/or blankets for critically ill children. I have also thought about making a quilt for a sick child at Christmas time. My son spent a few days in the hospital last year and his bed was in the oncology ward. Very heart wrenching to see. I’d also love to make something for animals in shelters. Poor things. All alone and abandoned by assholes who don’t give a shit about animals. Animals are the greatest thing and people abuse them. I am a day home provider and I always think it is so sad when another childcare provider advertises “smoke-free and pet-free”. In the same sentence! I can completely understand if a family member has allergies but some people actually hate animals. Sad. One day when I’m 95 years old and living in a nursing home I hope to God that I am able to have a cat to cuddle with. One of my cats is an older cat and he has become so spoiled by me that at certain times during the day he yowls for me in my bedroom. I always wondered why and my husband thinks it is because he wants me to cuddle with him. Rocky has his a little cat bed made out of the most comfy material and I will often cuddle with him. I think my dh is right about this yowling for me as he quits yowling and purrs like a motor when I arrive.
I finished basting my first “Turning Twenty… Again” quilt. Pretty colours. I can’t wait until it is finished. I just have to figure out what design I am going to use to quilt it.

I have to pick up a few more fat quarters and some fabric for my friend’s quilt. I have to get going on that. Her birthday is on April 1st.
The Oscars are on the weekend and Ellen is hosting the show. She is hilarious and I love to watch the Oscars. More so to see the gowns. I love love sewing dresses. I have contemplating on sewing my cousin’s daughter’s grade 9 grad gown. Do I volunteer or should I wait to see if they ask me. She has larger breasts than I and that makes me nervous as she may pick a gown that does not support her well. Oh well, shouldn’t worry about it yet.

With the boom in our province there has been an influx of people that our city has become so bloody busy. I have always disliked the city and now I hate it even more. I’d love to move to a small town close to the city but my dh does not like that idea. With all these people you’d think that there would be more fabric available but there isn’t. Fabricland’s choices are horrid and Marshalls is not much better. There is only one shop in the city that is owned by a German lady and she has beautiful, quality fabrics but is expensive. I think I am going to shop at her store and online. Emma One Sock has such a beautiful collection that I think I will try her. I have patterns that I would love to make but I cannot find fabric that I like. I am very picky when shopping for fabric as I have to be passionate about the fabric or else it is a waste of my time sewing it. As for quilting, there are only a few quilting stores in my city and they have beautiful fabrics. I seem to have better luck with quilting fabrics. Yesterday I purchased a number of fat quarters for a quilt I’m going to make for a good friend. It’s her birthday in April and she’s been such a good friend I really want to make her one. I need to pick up a couple more all-brown fat quarters but Earthly Goods ran out. The pattern I am using for her quilt will be the “Turning Twenty…. again”. I love that pattern. Very easy and very quick to sew together. I am more attracted for contemporary patterns and fabrics.

The rest I’m not sure who they are made by. I’m too lazy to look at the selvage:

It’s okay. She is just getting her first annual checkup and it’s free too. Handing over my sewing machine to the shop clerk was like handing over my daughter to her caregiver when she was 13 months old. Please don’t drop my precious were my thoughts as she carried to the back. It’s depressing to look over at my sewing desk only to see an empty spot. I need to bring my serger in too but I’ll do that after precious is home safe.
I’ve been making a quilt for myself (and my family) called “Turning twenty… again”. Wonderful, easy and fun pattern. It is made up of all fat quarters and so it wastes very little fabric. I saw this pattern in a magazine (which I have now lost) and it was displayed in a store out of Saskatchwan, Canada. I loved the pattern and the colours. Different shades of denim blue, golds, and orange. It looks very sharp. I just bought some fabric for the backing and the binding but since my lovely machine is in the shop my quilt is at a stand still. I could sew it with my Hobby but it does not have the walking foot to do the quilting. But, I think I’ll just stitch up the backing so I can pin the three layers together.
March’s edition of Burda World of Fashion has some nice pieces. I was attracted to a couple and just might purchase myself a copy.

Now just have to find some cute fabric for these tops. I have a Burda pattern for some capris that I would like to sew. Burda pants fit so well on me.
