I am part Ukrainian and part German. As my mother being Ukrainian, we tended to celebrate more of the Ukrainian traditions and that included Ukrainian dancing. For ten years of my young life, I danced and I loved it. Now, my daughter is carrying on the tradition. So far, she loves it.

Ukrainian dance alone is an exciting thing to watch. If you have not had the opportunity to see a group dance, put it on your list of things to do. Out of all the cultural dances I have witnessed from other countries, none compare to the Ukrainian dance. Fast and colourful are two words that hardly express what this dance brings to the stage. Take a gander at some of the photos to see what I mean:

I’ve been waiting to write this post as I had to watch all the episodes online since in Canada we do not get the latest Project Runway (USA) until months later. I finally watched the finale. I have to say that this season was my all time favourite. I grew quite attached to the contestants in this season. Mondo, I liked from the start along with Michael Costello too. I felt sorry for Michael when everyone was being so cruel to him for jumping on Ivy’s wagon of hate. Michael, if you were to ever stumble across my post, please please don’t live your life according to what your parents want. Be true to yourself! Live your life for YOU!!

Ivy. I don’t know whether she is just spiteful or she honestly feels Michael and Gretchen are dishonest. Either way, she did herself a great disservice for her hateful words. Mean I think. Mondo, he is so cute and I really like his designs. I applauded him for telling the world of his HIV status. What a difficult thing to do especially on t.v. I’m proud of him. Gretchen, I wasn’t too sure of her but I really do think she means well.

Overall, everyone did their absolutely best under the conditions they were expected to design and produce. I know I could never do that. Talk about stress.

I’m sure you’ve notice that my favorite color is blue. Blue is so pretty to look at and it is so calming too. We are in the midst of updating the exterior of our home which was built in 1986. Our theme color is grey. Grey shingles just got put on and in the spring we’ll be residing the front of our house along with new eavestrough, etc. To finish it off, we’ll be selecting a new door. A door with glass. My husband suggested a BLUE door. Good choice! I’d like a turquoise blue door but he just cannot envision that. He suggested a navy blue door. THAT is going to be hard to get that perfect navy blue door. I’ve seen many blue doors that look more like royal blue and that I do not want. So, the hunt for the perfect blue door is now on.

I have a thing for old sewing machines. Nothing is made like they used to make them and that is to make them last. Sad isn’t it? Now a days, one thing breaks and it costs you an arm and a leg to fix it. So much that some times you end up just buying a new one. THAT is exactly what companies want.

Anyways, back to my original topic. I’ve always wanted an old black sewing machine that weighs a ton. I’d LOVE to have a Singer Featherweight but those cost $$$. I just happened to stumple across a Singer 99K at a thrift store. As I was walking through the isles I came across a case that looked like a sewing machine. I said to my son, “I wonder what is under this?” To my surprise a Singer 99K! AND in good condition. How much did I pay? $50 CDN. Not bad. I’m not sure how much this machine is worth but I’m not interested in flipping it to make money. I’m interested it for keeps. I’d love to have it displayed in my main living area just like the women of the past used to do. The sewing machine was right in the middle of the living room. I’m sure women sewed in the evening after the kids went to sleep. No tv or the internet so sewing was done then.

I still haven’t sewn with this machine but it does work well. I’d like to make my son’s curtains with them once I’m finished sewing some slipcovers for a client.

Take a gander at this find. I did some research on this model and it was made in 1955.

Mine is not on there but I believe I have a post somewhere on my blog showing my sewing space. I don’t have a room as of yet. When my 8 year old moves to his room in the basement I’m taking over his room. Right now, his future room is full of clay projects that I’ve taught over the last couple of weeks.

So, if you need inspiration for making your own sewing room, check that link out.

Looky, looky at this blog. My blog made it on this list! I feel so honoured. In my last post I talked about sewing in school remembering the smell of the sewing room and all the sewing machines lined up. It would be fun to be a sewing teacher. May be one day I will be? Right now, I actually am a clay teacher. I teach elementary aged children to hand build projects out of clay only to be fired by me and painted by them. I do a demo on my mini-pottery wheel for their pleasure also. It takes a tremendous amount of energy and patience to do this. Honestly, I’m amazed that I have both as I’m not the most patient person in the world. I think the fact that I’m doing something artsy it takes away the stress and makes it just fun!

Anyways, back to sewing. It’s very nice to have made this list and I hope I can help at least one student in some way.

Thank you for reading my blog.
