Just Sew It

Robert Shaw in Jaws

Robert Shaw born in 1927 played a most memorable role in the movie Jaws. His performance as Captain Quint in Jaws (1975) is ranked #28 on Premiere Magazine’s 100 Greatest Movie Characters of All Time. I love this movie and this character. My brother loves this character too. In fact he loves this character so much that he just named his new born son after Quint. Quinten was born yesterday, December 11, 2007, to my brother and his wife. Poor girl had a rough labour and delivery. Baby Quinten was 8 lbs. and a few ounces. A pound makes a big difference. He is a big boy. When I walked into the hospital room my brother announced his name. He immediately asked me which character I knew that this name is from. I asked, “Quentin Tarantino?” Nope. Try again he states. He gives me a slight hint of his all time favorite movie. That’s easy. Quint from Jaws????!!! Yes!!! That is hilarious. First I love the name but it makes it even better that he named it after that character. I love that character. Remember? “Jesus H. Christ” or “Here’s to swimmin’ with bow-legged women”

What was I thinking…..

when I decided I wanted to become a mother. One never thinks about what is all included in having a baby. Women just think of the cuddly little baby they get to dress up and hold. Just wait until school starts especially with kindergarten. With having to bring snacks, and driving back and forth and bringing this and that for this and that. OY!!!! Too much to remember! Too much to do! I’m exhausted today. Last night I had to make cookies for a cookie exchange I’m going to tonight. I tried three recipes from a magazine and to no avail. I quickly found a recipe in one of my trusted cookbooks by Best of Bridge. Thanks ladies. The cookies turned out great. I made Almond flavoured chocolate with chunks of white chocolate and almonds. They’re good. Whew! Now I’m tired today. Anyways, this being a mom bit is too much. I need a vacation. But don’t get me wrong I absolutely love my kids but all these snacks for school, dance school and bringing food for hampers, etc. is just so much to remember.

Sewing? phf! I’ve had no time. No time. I had to sew up some banners for my son’s class. I never volunteered for that one either. The teacher saw my sewing machines when she came over for a home visit at the beginning of the year. They do that in my son’s kindergarten class. The teacher visits each child on their own turf. We showed her the playroom and of course she saw my sewing room. Rats.

Well, I’m finishing this post the next day and I now have more sewing for my son’s class. The other mother who is doing the a.m. class placemats picked up the fabric. She only bought one spool of thread and I’m not so sure why she picked up one spool of serger thread. Is she for real? If she has a serger, why did she only pick up one spool? I’m doing a rolled-hem on it and the teacher specificially asked if I had a serger. Weird.

Some of the photos were taken at my friend’s house for the cookie swap. I love cats and had to take some pics of her kitties. I also took pictures of her Christmas village. So pretty. I was the only one taking pictures and probably looked like a loser but I don’t care. My friend thought it was cute.

Magical

Christmas is so magical. My all time favorite part of Christmas is decorating the tree. I love the glittery decorations and the glowing lights. My daughter is into it this year much more than ever. I’m nursing a cold during this busy time of year. I headed out to crazy West Edmonton Mall at 9:30 a.m. to beat the mad crowds. I DESPISE crowds with a passion. People forget their manners and tend to over step into “my space”. I have now made a pact with myself that I must shop first thing in the morning or close to closing. No mid-day crap. After having a small shopping bag stolen in The Gap, I am even more careful with my bags and my purse. Another good reason to avoid the crowds.

I got lucky this year and I’m invited to a cookie swap this week. I’ve tried two cookie recipes and have another one to try. The third one has good reviews on it so I’m crossing my fingers as I don’t like to bake a lot (hate the mess).

I have made a good dent in my Xmas shopping already. Still more to go. I never stress myself out too much over gift buying. I just have fun with it.

I stopped at my all time favorite scrapbook stores and picked up supplies for some gifts I plan to make for my parents and my in-laws. I’m going to make them a framed layout of our kids for this past year. They’ll like it.. I hope.

I have the following to get down before December 25:

Crocheted baby blanket
Corn bags for warming sore muscles
Framed Layouts

Get busy!!!
