Just Sew It

Next Project

I have been missing my dear sewing machine and have been thinking about my next project. Today my husband mentioned that his cousin will be getting married in October. A cooler month but not winter. I went online shopping for a pattern and decided to make this dress Vogue 8180. I’ll making the view with the sleeves. I like the simple but fitted design of this dress. I also like the way the skirt if pleated. Nice.

Twenty Years Ago

On July 31, 1987, Edmonton experienced a storm like it had never before. An F4 tornado tore through parts of the city and ended the lives of 27 people. I remember that day like it was yesterday. I was twenty years old and I was just learning how to drive. I was desperate for the weather to end as I wanted to go driving with my dad so I could practice for my road test. I stood at the front window staring at the trees blowing so hard I thought they were going to be ripped out of their roots. I thought, “this is weird”. But at the same time I was still wishing it would end soon so I could go driving. A short time later, the news of a tornado had ripped through our city was all over the radio and t.v. I was shocked as many people were. A tornado? in Edmonton?? Yes, there are very small twisters in our Province but an F4? Very rare. From that day on Edmonton residents have always feared an occurrence of that day. Last night was no different. We have had a heat wave for weeks and last night the skies opened up. Very scary. Anyone who is old enough to remember that day always looks at the clouds to see if they have a greenish colour to them and just prays a twister will not rip through.

A poor little wild rabbit that likes to chill on our grass was huddled against our hedge. I felt so sorry for him. I had wished you would find shelter under our deck instead. I wished I could go out there to grab him but he is wild and would run. I would have made it worse for him. I have such a soft heart when it comes to animals.

Anyways, I hate extreme hot weather as the possibility of a tornado is always present.

What to do, what to do?

I’m almost finished my granny squares for my afghan that I’ve been working on for months. Time to be over. I am so looking forward to starting a new project. As previously mentioned, I am going to start on my Lil’ Monkey afghan. I will post progress photos with some instructions. I’m not sure if the author/designer would appreciate if I completely spelled out the pattern but I’ll do some of it.

As for sewing, I just finished a skirt. I have to give it a final press and take photos of it with me in it. What’s next? Not sure? A quilt? or clothing? Not sure.

He posed for me. Isn’t he nice.

Amy Butler does it again!

Okay, now I’m really jealous. Amy Butler now has a line of paper and embellishments for scrapbooking. I love her scrapbooking line just as much as her fabric. I would love to be a designer like Amy Butler. That would be my dream to have a studio and to be called a designer.

I am working on a skirt by Burda. Fabric? Amy Butler of course. Her fabric is soooo delicious! I’ll post pics when I’m done.
