Just Sew It

Centerpiece Ideas

I have trying to think of a simple, not too expensive of a centerpiece. I found this idea on Oprah.com. For my table, I would only fill two martini glasses and put a large pillar candle in the middle. My table will be decorated in olive green colours and cream (and maybe a little red). So I’ll pickup some white carnations, greenery, and a white or red rose. We’ll see.

With my quilting, I have put aside my sampler quilt to work on the lap quilt for my parents. I have to have that finished for Christmas. I pinned it together today. The kids were very eager to help me so I let them rip off the tape of the backing after I finished pinning. You can get a four year old to do anything eagerly except pickup their toys.

During the holidays, I plan on finishing my sampler quilt. In January, I am planning on making a Turning Twenty… again quilt. I have decided my colour scheme already. I will be using blue denim colours and different shades of golds and maybe some brown.

Coming along

Last night, I got a start on quilting my sampler quilt. I have been intimidated by the quilting process but I took a relaxed attitude towards it and I actually like it. I picked up some books from the library on quilting and there are really no right or wrong way in choosing a design. I stitched in the ditch around my sashing last night. Now I will do some quilting inside the blocks. I think for some I will stitch in the ditch but for some I will draw out some lines. In the border, I’d like to do some free motion work specifically stippling. I have been practicing on a scrap but since it’s my first quilt I am going to go for it.

I bought some gloves and I’m glad I did. I picked up “Machingers”.
