Just Sew It

Mediterranean Seas…

is the name of my quilt that I will be making for a Christmas gift for my parents. I renamed this quilt as I am not appliqueing the sheep on it and will be using colourful blues instead. I didn’t feel “Flock of Dreams” was appropriate for this quilt.

This is the nine patch that I have proudly made:

I have been neglecting my blog and reading of my favorite blogs also. I, like many of you, have been busy. Last weekend was Rememberance Day on Saturday and in lieu of this statutory holiday I gave myself Monday off. I had the opportunity to volunteer for Cassandra’s clay mask making. She is currently studying Peru and to kick off this subject they are making a clay mask. I love to help out in the classroom and will do so any chance I get. This is Cassandra’s work of art:

On Wednesday, I took my finishing class for my sampler quilt. We all took turns pinning the three layers together. After pinning six quilts together, how can anyone forget how to do it. Sorry no pics. Next Wednesday, we learn how to machine quilt a sample and how to apply the binding.

It’s Back!

I finally got my computer back. After almost two months, my dh got a call to pick it up. Apple and the dealer both dropped the ball with ordering of the logic board which was to be replaced. My god. So, I’m happy that I don’t have to bother my husband to use the computer.

I finished cutting my quilt that I am working on next. I have been fitting in my sewing in my busy day for at least 30 minutes a day. I’m like a drug addict with my passion. I crave it. I think about it. I love reading about it. I’m addicted and have to do a little of it everyday. With my plan to fit it in everyday, I have been happier that I am getting my fix for the day. No withdrawals. No waiting for the weekend. Aaaaahhh.

After getting my haircut this morning, I stopped off at the big ass mall to see what I could get for Christmas clothes for the kidlets. I hate hate going to the mall on the weekend. It is way way too busy. It doesn’t help that the Canadian Rodeo Finals are in town. As I was walking through the mall, I came across this sheep. Some kids were petting her and I, being the only adult, joined in. She was soooo cute! They had a pull up on her. Dummy me thought she was a goat. Now that I look at the photo I can clearly see she is a sheep. Duh! My father-in-law would surely tease me about that one. My dh grew up on a farm full of hundreds of goats. He does one awesome goat call. Too funny.

Getting ready for Christmas

I’m almost finished my sampler quilt top. I did register for the next class to finish my first quilt. That begins on November 15th and ends the following week. This week, I’d like to cut out and start sewing my blocks together for my parent’s lap quilt. I’m looking forward to doing that one. I love love that fabric. My mom saw my sampler quilt and she loved the colours. Whew! She loves colour just like I do (Ukrainian). She expressed that she would like one too. I told her that everyone would get one. Give me time. She’ll get one sooner than she thinks.

I never ever thought I would get involved in the quilting world. I always thought quilts looked to grandmaish. But I actually like some of them. The shop where I am taking my classes has some beautiful quilts. The fabric is sooo delicious how can anyone resist? I do prefer more contemporary styled fabric which is readily available to quilters.

Winter has settled in. The only thing I don’t like about the Winter is the icy roads. I don’t mind snow at all. It can very pretty but driving on it is not fun especially if it rains. Some people do not adjust their speed for the conditions and it makes it nerve recking.

Anyways, I miss visiting PR, my favorite forum for sewing. I have not sewing any garments and I feel a little out of touch. There is a small section for quilting but there really is not a lot of talk about quilting on that forum. That’s okay though.

Organizing my sewing space

I woke up this morning deciding to change my sewing space. I need more room to accommodate quilts. I also did not like where my ironing board was sitting. I actually hated getting up to go to the ironing board. Besides, I get enough exercise dealing with kids all day. So while my cat Rocky watched nervously, I moved everything around and this is the result:

I put the table in front because I want my sewing machine facing towards my t.v. I enjoy watching or should I say listening to the t.v. while I sew.

This is a shot of the otherside of the room. The playroom.

Poor Rocky, whenever something is moved around he gets so stressed that he yowls. Poor old man.

During my dd’s dance lesson I registered for the finishing class on my sampler quilt. She said that we will never forget how to baste/pin a quilt together since we’d be helping each other. I thought I’d better take it. Besides, I enjoyed this class. This group of ladies were all very nice.

Tomorrow, I have to work on the sashing and border of my sampler. If I have time, I’d like to get some cutting done on my next quilt. Hope so.

I also bought the “stitch in the ditch” foot. I did some stitching in the ditch on my apron and found that my standard foot and applique foot did not work so well.

My mom seems to be interested in my quiltmaking. Interested meaning she wants one. I told her that everyone will get one. She’s getting one for Christmas. I also loves the colours I choose on my sampler quilt. So I think she will like the fabrics I chose for her quilt.
