Just Sew It

Fish Creek House

While visiting one of my favorite blogs, I stumbled across this blogger. She lives in Montana and runs a bed and breakfast. She also shares a lot of recipes. I don’t enjoy cooking but I love good food. I also adore country living. Check it out:

Why Older Chicks Rule by Andy Rooney

I thought this was funny and so true!! I found it on a message board that I love to visit:

This is for all you girls 40 years and over…. and for those who are turning 40, and for those who are scared of moving into their 50’s…AND 60’s..and for guys who are scared of girls over 40!!!!

Andy Rooney says:

As I grow in age, I value women who are over 40 most of all. Here are just a few reasons why: A woman over 40 will never wake you in the middle of the night to ask, “What are you thinking?” She doesn’t care what you think.

If a woman over 40 doesn’t want to watch the game, she doesn’t sit around whining about it. She does something she wants to do. And, it’s usually something more interesting.

A woman over 40 knows herself well enough to be assured in who she is, what she is, what she wants and from whom. Few women past the age of 40 give a hoot what you might think about her or what she’s doing.

Women over 40 are dignified. They seldom have a screaming match with you at the opera or in the middle of an expensive restaurant. Of course, if you deserve it, they won’t hesitate to shoot you, if they think they can get away with it.

Older women are generous with praise, often undeserved. They know what it’s like to be unappreciated. A woman over 40 has the self-assurance to introduce you to her women friends. A younger woman with a man will often ignore even her best friend because she doesn’t trust the guy with other women. Women over 40 couldn’t care less if you’re attracted to her friends because she knows her friends won’t
betray her.

Women get psychic as they age. You never have to confess your sins to a woman over 40. They always know.

A woman over 40 looks good wearing bright red lipstick. This is not true of younger women. Once you get past a wrinkle or two, a woman over 40 is far sexier than her younger counterpart.

Older women are forthright and honest. They’ll tell you right off if you area jerk, if you are acting like one! You don’t ever have to wonder where you stand with her.

Yes, we praise women over 40 for a multitude of reasons.

Unfortunately, it’s not reciprocal. For every stunning, smart, well-coiffed hot woman of 40+, there is a bald, paunchy relic in yellow pants making a fool of himself with some 22-year-old waitress.

Ladies, I apologize.

For all those men who say, “Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free”, here’s an update for you. Now 80% of women are against marriage, why? Because women realize it’s not worth buying an entire pig, just to get a little sausage.

My Favorite Christmas Decoration

Eight years ago when my dd was 8 months old, I joined a ceramic class to get out and try a new craft. This Santa is a musical ornament that plays “Oh Christmas Tree” which is a German tune that I have loved from the time I was a little girl. With the direction from my instructor, I painted this Santa and I cherish it to this day.

I caught it!!

I have caught the quilting bug! I love it! Last night was my class. When I walked in the door carrying my heavy sewing machine, the owner greeted me and told me that the class was cancelled! In my head I thought, “great, why did no one call me?” After driving all that way?? He told me that Charmaine called everyone. Ya, right she did. That is the same dimwit who screwed up my registeration for both classes. He told me that the instructor had fell (on ice most likely) and broke her wrist and had a concussion. Poor lady how awful! I saw a couple of girls from my class sitting down and they told me to come in. There was a machine quilting class starting and the instructor kindly told us that she would teach our class too. How nice! So we got our lesson plus a lesson on stippling, etc. Bonus!! She also told us that she never pins when she bastes her quilts. She uses a spray to baste them together. Much much quicker. She also told us that our instructor does not like to use the spray method. I wish that option would have been given to us. I am going to try that method because I don’t have a lot of time in my life to spend hours pinning. Anyways, she showed us how to put binding on and talked about stencils. I was glad I stayed. A girl in my class had brought a bottle of wine to share with everyone but instead we all chipped in the bottle of wine and gave it to her for teaching us.

My first attempt at stippling isn’t so great. But I had fun doing it. Need lots of practice!

It’s snowing like crazy today. Perfect day for some quilting…

Ellis Island and Pier 21

In the past year, I have been wanting to learn a little history about my grandparents’ arrival to Canada. During a trip to the east coast, my parents had the opportunity to visit Pier 21. Pier 21 was the gateway to Canada for many many newcomers in the early part of the century. My grandparents from both sides arrived there. They all came by boat between the ages of 19 and 24. We have found information on what boat they took, etc. but that’s about it. I’d like to get a little more information but it is difficult. I wish my Baba kept a diary.

I have also discovered that my great-grandma (my baba’s mother) came to New York before she was married and had children. She arrived in Ellis Island and worked in New York rolling cigars (I think). I am now looking for her records and I wish I could get a photo of her. I don’t think that will happen. But I would like to learn just a little about her. She was very brave to do that at that time.

I did try to ask my Baba some questions before she passed but her english has always been poor and she was even more difficult to understand in the last couple of years of her life.

This is why I like to scrapbook. To keep records of the family. I’m not huge on the scrapbooking scene anymore but I will probably do a little to keep up the history behind our family. I think I’d like to create a historic scrapbook.

Quilting has brought up these feelings too. I love to create something I can give so people can cherish or pass on their quilt to someone if they prefer. I plan on creating labels of each quilt I make so if in 50 years if it’s still around they will know the history.
