Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
It’s snowing!!!!! It’s our first official snow fall of the season. Wet snow so it will not stay long. Snow is pretty but I don’t like the cold that comes with it. The mountains are absolutely breathtaking in the winter. If you love to ski, the Alberta rockies have excellent skiing. I was once told that the snow in the Alberta rockies is one of the best. My cat is not too happy. He doesn’t get his daily jaunt. He is a cranky old man.
I have completed the mosiac square but my pictures did not turn out so well. Florescent lighting yellows pictures and is not very good for picture taking. I was supposed to complete the Monkey Wrench square but I ran out of two colours (purple and yellow). I need all of my chosen fabrics. I did not want to drive all the way to the quilting store that carried those particular fabrics. I tried Fabricland but their selection is an absolute joke. Fabricland is definitely not interested in catering to the quilting sewers. Their selection is not organized by colour and they have butt ugly fabric. Too cheesy and old-fashioned. I hope Fabricland reads this. Maybe they will smarten up with their purchases. Their fasion fabric sucks too. There fall/winter fabrics are so ugly. Again, old-fashioned.
I ordered a copy of “Rotary Magic” by Nancy Johnson-Srebro. Excellent book. Very thorough and great diagrams. I have Singer’s New Quilting by Machine and while that has wonderful photos it is not has thorough as Rotary Magic.

I purchased my copy at Chapters.ca You can also get it on Amazon.

It’s snowing here for the first time too, poor Rocky, can he at least look out the window?
The Fabricland in town here is actually not bad as far as the way they present their farbric, sometimes the selection is a little on the poor side though.

As a Fabricland sales clerk, I can try to explain some of the havoc. Not that it makes it excuseable. Fabricland clerks are customers, too!
After sales, the Quilter’s Corner gets rifled through like nobody’s business. I assure you, when tables are first set up, they’re colour co-ordinated. It’s difficult to keep up. Whenever there’s a spare moment, somebody’s arse is kicked to it. That’s at my location, anyway. But I agree – It’s a flipping mess. But it’s also really busy. The intent is there, but customers mess it up insanely, and there’s just no way to keep up, especially when so many stores are understaffed. I don’t know about where you are, but that’s the issue where I am.
As for the butt-ugly fabrics, there’s an explanation for that, too. One of our suppliers – Fabricmaster – does buy-outs. Unfortunately, instead of picking only nice fabrics, they’ll try to get a deal. Say they found a nice fabric at $5/m, but want it for less. The supplier says, ‘sure, you can have it for $2/m, but you also have to take this ugly crap, this ugly crap, and this ugly crap’. I cringe when receiving it. It’s horrid. What bothers me even more is that the fibre content is usually unknown. Bleech!
As a cotton fanatic and self-proclaimed fabric addict, I feel your pain. Unfortunately, Fabricland is such a huge beast of a store that there just isn’t the ability to pick and choose, or keep up with colour-coordination like smaller, privately-owned shops. They specialise in so many different fabrics that focus gets thrown all over the place.
If it’s any consolation, the Quilter’s Corner is getting a huge overhaul after inventory in July. New name, new layout, new … Stuff. I’m personally hoping it doesn’t suck, but it’s hard to tell these days.

Thanks for enlightening me Britt. Fabricland’s issue is never the employee’s fault. Unfortunately, shit runs down hill.
