Just Sew It

Jean Jacket: Part One

Okay, I finally got to actually doing some sewing time on my jean jacket. Today, I cut out my interfacing and marked my pattern pieces. I like to use the tracing wheel to mark but there are many other ways to mark.

In the photo below, you will see that I have made a separate facing which was cut out in a green corduroy. To do this I traced the original front piece by tracing the extension to be folded separately. Am I confusing you?? I added a seam allowance on each piece because I would be sewing the front to the extension piece. After stitching, I pressed my seams.

I carefully trimmed the seams close to the stitching to prevent any bulk. I then stitched the back pieces together.

Next will be the construction of the front.

Hmmm… I think I’m confusing myself…

On another note….. like my grass? No Weeds!!!! In finally beat those suckers. Last fall we ripped out a large spruce tree that was sucking all the moisture out of our lawn. Moisture that was imperative for a lush and beautiful lawn.

Yes… I’m one of those people that is obsessed with a nice looking lawn. I pick weeds like some people pick zits.

Speed Tailoring

Speed Tailoring is the name of the online course I will be starting on September 25. The course is offered on the Sewing.patternreview website and the instructors name is Shannon Gifford.

I will be sewing a fitted jacket and a number of patterns were given as a choice. I chose Kwik Sew 3386:

3386

I found some great fabric at Fabricland for $3.99/m. The girl who cut my fabric said that there is a bit of wool in it so she advised me not to put it in the dryer. Thank you. I would have never known that there is wool in it. It is a very firm weave. The colour is a blackish/dark grey with a very fine dark blue plaid. You can hardly see the blue. I chose a dark blue lining in a Laurier satin. I’m not sure if that is appropriate for this type of jacket but I’ll give it a shot.

My dd wanted to come along and she found a pattern for a sweet nightgown that she really wanted me to make. I let her pick out the fabric. She wanted her nightgown to be comfortable so I directed her to the flannel section. She found a blue princess print that will look very sweet. She also picked out the accent ribbon in a royal blue.

nightgown

Now that my plate is full I have to get on my jean jacket. I have until the 25th to finish that one. I’d like to get my dd’s nightgown cut out this weekend also.

Today I plan on driving on down to the dealer where I purchased “My Precious” and registering for a beginner quilting class. That starts on the 27th I believe. I’m planning on making a lap quilt for my parents as a gift. I’m not interested in making a king sized quilt for my bed but I think it’s nice to make quilts for gifts. I also need the dealer to go over buttonholes. My manual explains it but I’d like them to show me to make sure I’m doing it right.

Question to anyone who reads this. Would you take your computerized sewing machine to a class? I’m not sure if I like dragging “my precious” out into the cold cruel world.

Black is Back

goateye

What does a picture of a goat’s eye have anything to do with the color black you say? Nothing. I’ll get to the topic of black in a minute.

Today I took my kids to a Corn Maze and they had some goats and pot belly pigs. Creepy looking eye. Ever since I watched an episode of Fear Factor where contestants ate a sheep’s eye, I have a hard time looking these guys in the eye. They are cute though. I love animals of any sort.

Now for the color black. Color seems to be making a come back this fall and I plan on purchasing and sewing a few pieces. I love to wear blackin the winter especially when I go out on a night on the town. Black must be worn properly IMHO or else one can look trashy. I find t-shirts with slogans and cheap knits can make one look very trailer trashy. If black clothing is chosen carefully and fits well, one can look very classy. Tonight I found a sweater that buttons up with just one or two buttons in the front but is smartly fitted in the back. I love it. I found another semi-casual sweater which has a slight gather at the neckline. I plan on wearing it at home. I work at home and although I like to look somewhat professional I don’t like to wear my good clothes while working. I operate a dayhome. Children and good clothing do not go well together.

I finished cutting my jean jacket out. A lot of pieces. The plan this weekend is to get a start on the construction. I am going to do whatever it takes to make this happen.

On another note, Project Runway 3 is starting on Life Network on September 4. Canada is always behind the eight ball!

*&$%#@*#$ Punks

That is what I said on my way to my scrapbooking crop night on Saturday. Why you ask? Well, traffic was crawling on the freeway and it took me 40 minutes to travel a short distance. Accident? No! A bunch of punks were being arrested. Their car which was probably stolen and the cop’s cars were sitting in one lane leaving a sea load of drivers to squeeze into one meezley little lane. I was so mad that these hoodlums make me late for my crop night. I hope these buggers spent the night in jail. They didn’t look too happy. On the way home, driving was a little scary too. A lot of reckless drivers on the freeway… again…. damn punks. Listen to me…. punks, hoodlums. I sound like an old woman. Life sure changes!

Anyways, I had fun at my crop. With the socializing and cropping, I enjoyed my time away from the kids. I completed three layouts:

Scrapbook2

It took me an hour to make this backpack!

The title on this one is going to be “A River Runs Through It”

scrapbook3

So, that’s it for the scrapbooking.

After taking my dd school clothes shopping, I cut out part of my jean jacket. I just cut out the collar, front facing, pocket facing and cuff in the green corduroy that will accent the black denium. I’m tired. Can’t you tell? My spelling goes out the window when I’m tired.

Life is just getting in the way of my sewing.

Can’t wait ’til Saturday Night

On Saturday, I get to go to a crop night. A scrapbooking crop night from 5 p.m. to midnight. No friggen kids!!!

Let me tell you why I am so excited. I am a SAHM AND I operate a day home out of my home. Yes, I care for other people’s children.

This week I have six kids including my own two. The ages are 8, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 18 months. The 18 month old is a temporary kid and the rest are here full-time. Since it is summer, I have them all fricken day!! I am going absolutely crazy.

On Saturday night, I don’t want to see one kid in sight. The store that is holding the crop has recently banned kids from attending a crop. Thank fricken God!! I love my kids but spending the whole day with six kids is extremely hard on my nerves. So needless to say I have been too exhausted to even cut out my jean jacket.
