Amy Butler’s Madison Bag

On Saturday, I drove to the southside to purchase some of Amy Butler’s fabric. I also caved and purchased her pattern for the Madison Uptown/Downtown handbag. Even though I really want to make this bag the cost of the materials is ridiculous. Lets see…. pattern cost $19.95, fabric was $16.95 a metre (I purchased 1/2 metre each) and I had to order the special interfacing (bought Timtex and another heavyweight) online. The interfacing alone cost $36.08 including shipping. For only a handbag, it’s costing me too much.

My Salute to Tom Cruise

It wasn’t the easiest to find a photo of Tom without his love, Katie Holmes, attached to him. I was watching a show that was showing clips of him making his new flick, Mission Impossible III, that is out today. What do I love about Tom? In real life he enjoys fast things. He loves racing cars, racing motorcycles, flying airplaines. He said he loved shooting Top Gun and soon after got his pilot license. Guys playing with fast toys is sexy in my books. Ya, ya, he made that stupid comment about depression and exercise but I don’t care, he’s still hot. He should have just kept his mouth shut. The media can be very cruel. I don’t he really cares though.

Tom, he’s to you!

On another note, yesterday a PR member posted her review on a weekend travel bag that she made with some beautiful fabric. The pattern was by Amy Butler and the fabric was from Fabricsource.com. She was kind enough to share the link. I went to check out the site and yes they do have very beautiful fabric. I checked their shipping rates and quickly found out that they do NOT ship to Canada! I sent them an email asking why they don’t ship to the great white north and they responded by saying that there is a lot of paperwork involved with customs. BS! I have ordered many things from the States and I’ve also sent things to the States. All these idiots have to do is to apply a sticker to the front (which is done at the post office) and state what the item is. Tons of paperwork my ass. They do not have to worry about customs or duty. The duty is up to me and is determined at the border. It is very frustrating to sometimes get products because there is simply limited resources in Canada. I don’t mind getting it from the States but shipping and duty costs can really add up. Canada has a much smaller population that the States so that would account for the lack of resources. How many people in Saskatchewan are on Patternreview.com. Not too many. Have you ever been to Saskatchewan? It is very similar to North Dakota. Nothing to see.
