Just Sew It

Skin Care

On my favorite sewing site, I asked members what they like to use for anti-wrinkle/moisturers for their face. I am posting the following info. a member posted just for my personal use as my skin is similar to hers:

I have very fair skin that gets red easily, and is prone to both dryness and breakouts.

I use a cream or oil-based cleanser that is non-comedogenic, like MAC Cleanse Off Oil. In the morning, I follow that with Olay Complete All Day Moisture Lotion SPF 15 Sensitive Skin, or Cetaphil Lotion and Clinique SPF 25 Super City Block (a sheer titanium-dioxide sunscreen that I use when my skin is irritated – it also masks redness very well).

At night, I use Neutrogena Multi-Vitamin Acne Treatment on my T-zone. The active ingredient is salicylic acid, the same as in many alpha-hydroxy acid anti-aging treatments, and it also has anti-oxidants. I like it because it doesn’t irritate my skin or make me break out. I use Cetaphil lotion for dryness where needed.

I treat any zits with a 2% salicylic acid gel – I use Clean & Clear, but I’m sure they’re all the same. I also use Aveeno Essential Moisture Lip Conditioner with SPF 15 (the least waxy sunscreen lip balm I’ve found). If I’m going out in the sun for any length of time, I like Coppertone Oil Free SPF 30.

Phew! I sound like a chemist. I’ve tried so many different things, and I can tell you that these really work for me – I wish someone had given me a list! I no longer am looking for something better (except maybe lip balm, but that’s an endless quest!).

I would like to encourage everyone to wear sunscreen every single day. It’s the single best thing you can do for your skin. I’m only 30, but I’ve used sunscreen every day for eight years and have significantly fewer fine lines than my friends. Friends who bake in the sun are already showing sun damage – don’t do it!!!!

Thanks Kim
