Just Sew It

Skin Care

On my favorite sewing site, I asked members what they like to use for anti-wrinkle/moisturers for their face. I am posting the following info. a member posted just for my personal use as my skin is similar to hers:

I have very fair skin that gets red easily, and is prone to both dryness and breakouts.

I use a cream or oil-based cleanser that is non-comedogenic, like MAC Cleanse Off Oil. In the morning, I follow that with Olay Complete All Day Moisture Lotion SPF 15 Sensitive Skin, or Cetaphil Lotion and Clinique SPF 25 Super City Block (a sheer titanium-dioxide sunscreen that I use when my skin is irritated – it also masks redness very well).

At night, I use Neutrogena Multi-Vitamin Acne Treatment on my T-zone. The active ingredient is salicylic acid, the same as in many alpha-hydroxy acid anti-aging treatments, and it also has anti-oxidants. I like it because it doesn’t irritate my skin or make me break out. I use Cetaphil lotion for dryness where needed.

I treat any zits with a 2% salicylic acid gel – I use Clean & Clear, but I’m sure they’re all the same. I also use Aveeno Essential Moisture Lip Conditioner with SPF 15 (the least waxy sunscreen lip balm I’ve found). If I’m going out in the sun for any length of time, I like Coppertone Oil Free SPF 30.

Phew! I sound like a chemist. I’ve tried so many different things, and I can tell you that these really work for me – I wish someone had given me a list! I no longer am looking for something better (except maybe lip balm, but that’s an endless quest!).

I would like to encourage everyone to wear sunscreen every single day. It’s the single best thing you can do for your skin. I’m only 30, but I’ve used sunscreen every day for eight years and have significantly fewer fine lines than my friends. Friends who bake in the sun are already showing sun damage – don’t do it!!!!

Thanks Kim

Painting time

Tonight, we start priming. I can’t wait until we start this. I have had no time to myself in the past week. I have been with the kids around the clock and downstairs to boot and I am going stir crazy!

Once the painting is all finished, I am going to get back to going to the gym and to my sewing. I got my sewing machine and I am in LOVE!!! I have been only playing with my machine. It is sooo sophisticated! I feel like I went from a Geo Metro to a BMW. Very nice. I think I deserve a sewing machine like this as I love to sew and I’m approaching 40. A 40 year old deserves to have a “mature” machine.

I found Nick Verreos’s blog. He is one of the designers on Project Runway and he is my favorite. I think he is fabulous designer.

So Tired….

Even though my husband is doing all the labour for our renos, I am very tired. With having no kitchen it is very tiring doing daily chores along for my family and my charges during the day. My husband thinks its not that bad to be without a kitchen but he is not doing the work. But I don’t dare complain because he is doing all the grunt work. I am the cleanup crew, buy materials and pick out colours. Oh well, I’ll be putting everything back once the kitchen is finally finished. That will be work. I can’t wait until this is finished.

Pattern Review Site

For the past year, I have been a member of a great sewing site called SewingPatternreviews.com. The creator of this site, Deepika, started this site because everytime she picks up a pattern she would like to know what is in store for her. Well, her site has done very well. She has over 50,000 members. You can choose to view some of it for free or if you choose to pay for a membership you receive extras. I think you get what you pay for and I think for all the work Deepika has done that she should charge a small fee for a membership. Very recently, she posted that if you want to send a private message to someone you have to have a membership. Some poster that is not a member complained as to what is the benefit of this change.

This reeeaaally bugs me. If you want the benefits, then don’t because such a *&#$2@ cheapskate! I cannot stand people who think they should get everything for free. They think it is their right. Personally, I think Deepika should give non-members a lot less. Then they will have more to bitch about. I always say, you get what you pay for. I didn’t post this on the boards on this site because those women can be nasty with their replies. Since this is my site, I will say whatever I want. If someone does not like, go away.

Anyways, cheapskates are my number one pet peeves. I cannot stand when they compare cavier to mcdonalds so to speak. These idiots don’t know the difference between quality and cheap.

So if you want the benefits of the whole website, open your wallet and blow off the dust and pay for it cheapskate!!

Renos

My hubby and I are in the midst of renovating out home. We ripped out a wall, kitchen cabinets, and carpets. Yuck! what a mess! I don’t have a problem with living in this chaos but I have two kids aged 7 and 3 along with the children I care for during the day. Yes, I operate a dayhome. That is what complicates things. We have to stay downstairs the whole time and it is pretty confined. But it is not too bad because my basement is setup perfectly for my dayhome. Half of my basement is a playroom and I have a tv area and a bathroom. The only thing we are missing is the kitchen. Eating out for us.

There soon will be a light at the end of the tunnel. Two more weeks, I hope.
