Just Sew It

Obesity

Obesity is a very serious problem in our country. I see way way too many women and men that are much too overweight. I’m not talking about 20 pounds here. I really do not care what other people look like but what concerns me is the strain it puts on our health care system. Eventually, obese people will develop problems. Heart disease, diabetes (sp?) etc. I have heard so many women complain about their weight but what are they doing? eating high fat foods and not exercising. Now I know that losing weight is a very difficult thing. Some people have to work very hard to keep weight off and I know that everyone cannot be a size 7 but it is imperative to take care of ourselves. I am a busy mom trying to balance my life between caring for two children, running a day home and getting to the gym while also sewing and scrapbooking as a hobby. Not always easy but I make it happen.

I go to the gym at least four times a week. Most women at the gym are fit but there are women there that are overweight. Overweight maybe by only 20 pounds give or take but they are there. On occasion I do see a very overweight women but they usually do not last too long. It really bothers me that I will have to pay one way or another for these severly overweight people. Longer lines at the emergency or longer waits for hospital beds, higher insurance premiums, etc.

Wake up people! your health is at stake!! I hear all kinds of complaints and excuses but when it comes down to it WE are responsible for ourselves. No one is making you eat poorly and we can squeeze in exercise. I think companies should try to incorporate exercise into our daily schedules with either having an onsite gym at work or giving employees time during the day to get to the gym. Exercising gives more energy which equals to a more healthy and productive employee.

Obesity is such a problem and we all need to pay close attention to this problem.
