Just Sew It

Going to get my machine this week…

Yup… I’m picking my new baby up this week! Man it’s been torture! I have been researching machines for at least 10 months and I finally decided on a Pfaff Expression. I really like Pfaff sewing machines. Janome is another brand that I like. I struggled with trying to decide between the Janome Memory Craft 4900 and the Pfaff Quilt Expression. The Janome was very nice. It had tons of stitches and sewed through different fabrics very well. It also had the drop-in bobbin and kneelift features that I wanted. But the Pfaff has the IDT feature which is very very nice and is very helpful when sewing fine and/or slippery fabrics. Pfaff machines also feel very solid.

On December 31, I sat down, again, and test drove the Janome and the Pfaff. On this New Year’s Eve day, I finally decided what I wanted…. the Pfaff was the winner! Why the Pfaff? As soon as I started sewing I made my decision. The Pfaff sewed much faster and smoother. I don’t sew fast all the time but I want that option if I choose to. The smoothness was a big seller for me too. I really really like Pfaff’s and could not walk away from it. Of course the owner put pressure on me to buy it but I told him I was not ready financially. He told me that I could make it in three payments but I said no. I told him that I would be ready in January. So I walked to the back to pay for the repairs of my mom’s machine. When he came to help me he said I could put a $50-$100 deposit on it. I could tell he was not thrilled with doing that but to me putting a $50.00 deposit means that I will be paying and picking it up. I keep my word. These dealers can be so sticky but in a way I don’t blame them. Many idiots out there give these dealers the shaft and wreck it for others. If everyone was honest, it would be much easier to purchase things. But that’s the way the cookie crumbles.

Anyways, I’m going to even try tomorrow in the morning. mmmmmm, maybe not. One of my kids is going on a fieldtrip and I’m not dragging four kids into the store. Maybe, Wednesday??

Baby Found in bag in Brazil

Every day I read the news on CNN.com and this morning there was a headline reading, “Baby found in a bag floating on Brazil lake”. Someone with a video camera caught the whole thing on tape and it is quite heart wrenching. The baby is only two months old and thank god these people checked it out. See for yourself.

Waiting……

I have waiting to purchase my new sewing machine. I have a machine on layaway and I will soon be picking it up but I can’t just yet. Man it’s torture! Waiting is not my favorite thing to do. Tick tock, tick tock………….

Project Runway, Episode 3

I haven’t sewed in a while because I have been working on my scrapbooking (my second hobby) and we have been doing major renovations to our home. Anyways, three weeks ago Project Runway season 2 started on Mondays nights. I have been taping and watching faithfully. I love this show. I love watching these competitors work on their garments for the competition. I wish the producers would show more of the preparations instead of the eliminations. Watching these aspiring designers come up with unique outfits is very aspiring. It gives me so many ideas and shows me that I can be very creative with what I sew. I always say that if I am going to sew something it should be unique. Why would I want to sew something I can buy off the rack?

Episode 3’s challenge was that the contestants had to design a garment for “My Scene barbie”. They had to design it for their model and then make a replica for the actual doll. My favorite design was Nick’s and Nick’s design won. Because he won his design will be featured on his own “My Scene Barbie”. Cool huh?! I like Nick’s work and he think he is a great designer. Santino is good but too cocky. I don’t like that girl from South Africa. She is a nervous wreck and blames it on everyone else. So far I am really enjoying watching season 2.

Until next week… ciao!
