Halloween Costume
I am currently making my dd an Ariel mermaid costume. Pictured are the pattern pieces cut out:

I have sewed the top and now, hopefully, tonight I will start on the skirt.

I recently finished sewing a skirt made from pattern Kwik Sew 2737:

This is a straight cut skirt with a narrow waistband. It has a lapped zipper in the back and comes in two lengths. Kwik Sew is known for their wonderful instructions. Kwik Sew always includes instructions on how you can finish your seams. They are very clear and helpful. Kwik Sew is a great pattern company for beginners.
I made a size large but should have made a medium or a small and tapered to a large waist. Next time I will do this. I put in a lining made of Bemberg. I always use Bemberg because it is light and comfortable to wear.
I did not have any difficulty sewing this. Next time while fitting, I will fiddle with the darts before I take in the side seams. I read in a book by Sandra Betzina’s “Power Sewing” that it is better to adjust the darts before taking in the side seams. She states that it is more flattering.
I always fit as I sew. Afterall, this is part of the reason I sew – to get the perfect fit – right?
Here is another picture of my skirt with a top that I made to wear with it. The top is made from a chocolate brown fabric (I think a charmeuse) with light blue dotty things. I think it looks nice together:

If you have any questions, leave a comment and I will answer your question.
So if you are looking for a skirt to make this one is very nice.
My favorite website for sewing info. is www.sewing.patternreview.com. This site has tons of info. on it. Other sewists from all over the world are members (a small fee to join) and every day sewists post reviews on their garments, etc. that they sew. In addition, there are online classes available, technique information, a message board, etc. If you love to sew, this site is a must. If it wasn’t for this site, I would feel very alone in the sewing world. Members are very helpful and supportive. Connecting to others around the world has helped my sewing improve greatly. Check it out.
Sewing is my passion. I love everything about sewing. From choosing the pattern and fabric, to measuring and cutting, to using the Sewing machine. When I was little I loved playing with my mom’s Bernina. I have always been fasinated with the Sewing machine. I first learned to sew in Grade 8 and made a jean pencil case for my very first project. Years later, I took a few classes and began sewing apparel for myself. At 28 I made home dec items and halloween costumes for my dd once she was born. At the age of 37 (year 2004) I caught the sewing bug again and this time I am absolutely addicted. My goal is to perfect my sewing and fitting techniques. I would like to become an expert and have my own home-based sewing business.
I’m married to a wonderful husband (he made my blog), and have two beautiful children along with two cats to cuddle up with.
